ch-ch-changes

Matt looked at me two nights ago while we were on our way home from a small get-together with our youth group and said "we have a lot going on in the next couple months". Boy, is he right!

The Turleys have been experiencing quite a few changes in a pretty short period of time. Obviously the biggest change for each of us was becoming "the Turleys" and what a sweet and welcomed change that was last year on May 5th! Neither of us could have seen what our near future held as husband and wife and it's been a beautiful thing to enjoy these twists and turns together.

The first major change, that I can recall, came about 6 1/2 months into our marriage when we decided to chuck the birth control and see what happened...as if we didn't know what would happen! Ha Then, a couple short months after that, the fruit of that first major change was realized. A baby! At the end of January, almost 9 months into our marriage, we found out we would soon become parents. We've been enjoying pregnancy, hitting these milestones together like hearing the baby's heartbeat, telling family and friends, feeling the baby move for the first time, finding out the little one we'd been calling "the baby" or "it" or "they" for so long was a sweet little boy, naming him, watching my belly grow, and so much more.

Speaking of baby, many of you have heard our story about the most recent change we've made. We're now the proud and excited owners of a Honda Odyssey. We love it! It drives like a dream, has wonderfully convenient features for now and when baby Oliver arrives, and should serve our family well as we grow over the coming years. It is a major blessing! It is however, the first time Matt or I will have had a car payment, yikes! We feel confident though that we made a good decision and my wise husband did a great job being financially responsible for our family.

During our marriage Matt has struggled with back pain. It started out pretty mild, but has slowly over the course of time gotten much worse. Recently, after trying every conservative method we could think of and/or were instructed to try by his doctor, we made the trip to Nashville to see a surgeon. Sure enough, the next big change will be Matt having surgery on his spine to relieve the pain in his back and correct the cause of it. Grateful that the Lord led us to a surgeon who seems to have the most glowing reputation and that beyond that we can trust that God is in control of exactly what happens to Matt before, during, and after surgery.

About a month after Matt's back surgery, which is right as he hits the mark of being fully out of recovery, we are moving! Yep, moving. We had the moved scheduled before the surgery and I have a feeling if that hadn't been the case we'd probably be exactly where we are a little longer because it's gonna be crazy! I'm hopeful that we'll be able to take time in August to pack (yeah, I said this about July too, but didn't happen) and prepare for the move. Matt will likely be out of commission and more a facilitator than anything - or in theory he should be, but I'm sure we all know in reality he'll be lifting boxes and loading trucks just like everyone else - but we're unbelievably blessed to have people in our lives who have already stepped up and said to count them in for the move. We're super excited about the new place and since we're moving at the beginning of September it should give me/us plenty of time to get all of baby's things organized before he gets here! I'm in some serious need of some nesting and I have a feeling after our first baby shower this Sunday that desire will be even stronger, but it'll have to wait. I'm so looking forward to it though!

The most anticipated change of all comes toward the end of this sequence of events, baby Oliver! After all of the changes I've mentioned above, the greatest (in both senses of that word) change of all for us in the near future is bringing this boy into the world. He is set to make his arrival on October 2, 2013. We expect that he could come anytime toward the end of September/early October and cannot wait to see his sweet face for the first time. It will be a day to remember just as it's been an experience over the last several months that will forever be ingrained in my mind. God is good. So so good.

Typically, I deal very well with change and as I've learned my husband over the past couple years I have realized he does too. Together we have seen changes happen in our own family as well as those we surround ourselves with and during all these changes - whether seemingly wonderful or not-so-welcomed - we are rooted and grounded (Ephesians 3:17) in and by The Changeless One. He will keep us.
